Frequently Asked Questions
What's different about LotusGroup?
We believe and invest in you. You might not hear that too often, but we believe in spending time helping you do whatever it is you'd want to do. Sometimes, people just need a little help getting organized with a budget while others are looking for us to put together a plan to help them reach their goals and to make their money work for them without having to do it themselves.
Is there a minimum amount I need to invest?
Yes, LotusGroup was founded based on the belief that we would always act in our Clients' best interest. The first step is to talk about your current situation to assess a simple calculation: can we make money for you after paying for our fees? If we believe you'd be better off continuing to save on your own with some guidance until you reach a certain point, then we'll happily help you by providing that guidance.
What kind of reporting do you provide?
We send you a quarterly report that is clear and easy to understand and just to be sure, your Private Client Advisor will schedule a call when you get the first report so you can talk through it together. You'll know how much money you started with and made, after our fees. You will also receive monthly statements from the brokerage account that's been setup for you which will provide more of the transactional details.
How do you get paid?
Our Private Client Group is paid a percentage of the total assets being managed. We believe that the best way to stay objective and to earn trust is to avoid conflicts of interest. Unlike other firms who get paid commissions, rebates, hidden management fees, solicitation fees and many other ways, we believe in being completely aligned with our Clients' best interest. So when we're evaluating an investment, we're not thinking of which one will pay us a quick commission, we're thinking about which one is best for you.
How do you stay in touch on an ongoing basis and keep up with changes in our lives?
We recognize that each Client is in a different phase of life with differing needs so we tailor each roadmap to deliver relevant services (e.g. financial planning, contingency planning, insurance needs, tax optimization, etc.) to solve each pain point. Using a team-based approach, each Client has a dedicated advisor and portfolio manager and access to LGA’s resources and specialists.
What is your approach to diversifying my portfolio?
Diversification is known to be the number one factor in creating a portfolio to meet long and short-term needs. While most people and firms are invested only in the US, Foreign and Bonds, LGA invests in over 45 discrete asset classes and is continously looking for opportunities to add more. These non-correlated asset classes include Commodities, Real Estate and Emerging Markets. The benefit is that your portfolio is custom tailored to your situation and hedged against the downturns of the US market while participating in the good times.
Does LotusGroup use a buy-and-hold approach?
No, LotusGroup executes a tactical asset allocation strategy which means that your Portfolio Manager and Investment Strategist are looking at the markets daily to make changes in your portfolio when it makes sense. Since we do not make any trade or fund commissions, we make moves only when it’s in your best interest. This is in contrast to a buy-and-hold approach which keeps an arms distance from the day-to-day market movements.
Will you rebalance my portfolio each year?
The typical investor and advisor may do this once a year, if at all, because they use a buy-and-hold approach and because there is a great deal of work involved in maintaining balance with markets constantly moving. However, LotusGroup’s portfolios are reviewed weekly for rebalancing to maximize your portfolio’s returns while taking advantage of buying low in areas of opportunity throughout the year, not just at the end of it.
